This beautiful garden has a magical quality about it. Di, the garden creator, is an artist and her medium is plants, trees and nature. There are over 4 ½ acres of native trees and plants, exotics and deciduous trees with delightful little areas spread around the garden. The creek with 4 ponds, water lilies and tranquility has been created over 8 years from an unloved patch of overgrown bushland. Simply inspirational.

The Barrecas family emanates welcoming warmth to all visitors entering their fine establishment. This farm is all about family and pride in their achievements and what it is doing. The winery was established in 1994 and now boasts a mixed farming of grape vines, olive groves, vegetable gardens and fruit trees on one property. With 46 hectares under vine, the predominant varieties include Shiraz, Barbera, Malbec, Zinfandel and Sangiovese. Fil, the owner, single-minded determination is to get the best out of every vine. The sparkling and fortified wines are 100% estate bottled. Their premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from the Estate’s own olive plantation.

This is a 120 acre family farm is triple-heritage listed and located on the banks of the Blackwood River. It produces pasture-raised chickens and ducks from paddock to plate using ecological, ethical and stress-free farming methods. This farm received an award in 2016 for Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practices. The chickens and ducks on the farm follow a herd of grazing cows – a practice known as Holistic Management which basically mimics nature using animals to build soil and grasses. Apart from a diet of insects, soil, diverse perennial pasture the birds are also fed a supplement of fermented feed to develop their gut bacteria and to provide additional protein.
The logo of Southampton farm is “it’s all alive, it’s all intelligent and it’s all connected”

This is an 8-acre hobby farm purchased in May 2018 focusing on lifestyle and healthy living using regenerative agricultural principals. There is an abundance of fruit and veg - all spray free and the soil is nourished by home produced compost and worm tea. This property currently grows garlic and some vegies for the open market. 3 bee hives ensure that the fruit and veggies are pollinated and provide an abundant supply of honey. Free range chickens and sheep keep the paddocks in good condition. The house is equipped with solar panels and a wood burner for winter. The property is located on the banks of a spring fed creek which flows for most of the year and provides the irrigation water. A substantial garden sees both exotic and native plants and trees growing side by side. There is an abundance of birdlife and a vocal colony of frogs providing a grand chorus at night time.
David and Sonja are happy to share their experiences and story.
